Transitions

Lost Children Net Label is going through some changes….

First off, I’d like to apologize to anyone who has tried to get in touch with us lately and hasn’t received a prompt reply. Lost Children is transitioning at the moment, though hopefully now we are back on track.

If you are interested in submitting music to be considered for release, please email a download and press kit (contact name, artist name, contacts, sites, bio, etc) to lostchildrennetlabel@googlemail.com. We will be checking myspace periodically, but it is better for everyone if we communicate via email and rely on those sorts of sites less and less.

I’d also like to draw your attention to our recently released The Silent Ballet Compilation, Volume 16: 그리고 모든것이 침묵으로 사라지다 (And with all this silence, Gone)

Also keep a look out for another TSB related release, a compilation dedicated to contemporary experimental Italian music. Some long-time TSB readers might remember the “Tracking the Trends” series. Think of this as the audio version of that series. 20 tracks from the top experimental artists working in Italy today, as well as a number of less known artists. Many of the tracks have been composed exclusively for this release. Including music by French Teen Idol, Neil on Impression, Nicola Ratti & Attila Faravelli, Fabio Orsi, Port Royal, Giuseppe Ielasi, Matteo Uggeri (Hue/Sparkle in Grey,) and 12 others. Coming in October.

You’ll be hearing some more from us soon, including some exciting announcements.

Cheers,

Joseph S.

The Silent Ballet Compilation : Volume 16

The Silent Ballet: Volume 16

Volume 16 marks the completion of the fourth year of The Silent Ballet Compilation Series. Throughout the series we have discovered a lot of noteworthy acts, rekindled the flame with old favorites, and watched the development of multiple musical scenes right before our eyes. We’re just as optimistic and excited about the future as we were four years ago, and every new release makes us as giddy as ever.

This edition is a first for the series; Volume 16 is the first compilation to contain a video track. Our gratitude goes out to The Sleepy Vines, who made this possible and has perhaps opened a door that will be investigated in the future.

A big thanks goes out to all the artists and labels who made this project possible. Relevant links can be found below; any support is greatly appreciated.

Final Light – Further Than You Think

‘Further Than You Think’ is the second album from James Morris under his Final Light guise, following two years on from his Lost Children debut album, ‘To Stop an Exploding Man…’, displaying increased maturity and depth in both song writing and production.

Beautiful piano lines interspersed amongst glitched beats, layered with delicate guitar lines, subtle samples and electronic, synth-like sounds to produce an often haunting, always harmonious and graceful soundscape. A great achievement and huge progression in such short time.

2. Floating on a Cloud

The Silent Ballet Compilation – Volume 14

Fall 2009 – Winter 2010

As is becoming tradition around these parts, Volume 14 and 15 will be released in close proximity to one another. Each compilation continues the website’s commitment to spotlighting emerging musicians, featuring upcoming releases, and providing rare tracks from our favorite artists to our readers. Our focus is always on the international level, and we’ll never tire of searching for the next best thing in the most unusual of places. Our goal of a seven continent split is almost within our grasp, we’re just awaiting news of the first penguin-led post-rock group.
We’re also committed to our goal of providing quality music in a respectable format without charge. As one of life’s greatest pleasures, music should be freely available to all and resistant to commodification. As the Lost Children Netlabel looks ready to close in on its one hundredth release in 2010, we at The Silent Ballet are thankful that the label has stuck to its goals and continues to provide excellent music free of charge. Although it may seem like the music industry gets ragged on a lot, if there were more labels like Lost Children around, we think that the music climate would be a much more agreeable place for musicians.
A big thanks goes out to all the artists and labels who made this project possible. Relevant links can be found below; any support is greatly appreciated.

Loss of a Child – Carry Me Home

‘Carry Me Home’ is the 5th Loss of a Child release and is their most expansive yet, a deeply layered album with flowing and interwoven melodies; contrasting instruments supporting, offsetting, and harmonising with each other and mixed for each to be heard though not necessarily under every listening environment, and certainly not on first listen; experimental through its strict structure and detailed song writing as opposed to the freedom and improvisation of many instrumental acts.

Complex instrumentation hidden beneath simple ideas, dynamism created within the melodies in addition to volume, and the standard multi-instrumental Loss of a Child approach providing many hidden melodic passages requiring repeat listening to find and understand, but each proving that the obvious is not necessarily the best when it comes to musical depth.

Tracklisting :
1. Dream
2. Black Snow
3. Saturday Night Star
4. Float Down Amongst Us
5. Trains
6. Beauty is Truth, Youth Beauty
7. Destiny
8. Are You Watching Closely?

11. Death

Painting By Numbers – Live Demo

It’s always easier to form a band when it’s not your first. Painting By Numbers has been a recurring project in the head of its architects long before it actually took shape in autumn 2008.

Antoine Ollivier (Dawnshape) and Gregory Hoepffner (Radius System, Time To Burn, Template) always felt their belonging groups didn’t let them experiment as much as they wanted. Soon joined by bandmate Axel Dallou (Radius System), the trio didn’t ask too many questions and quickly started making noise, in a language they didn’t even speak : improvisation.

Drums, Guitar, Bass, Synth, Samplers, and endless possibilities : Painting By Numbers are devoted to pushing the standards further, fight against their own musical habits, and try to find the right balance between sonic experimentation and pure groove pleasure.

In result of this first year of endless recordings, the parisian trio will is now releasing this “Live Demo”, available for free download

Sleepmakeswaves / Tangled Thoughts of Leaving – split LP

It’s been a while, but good things come to those who wait. Hailing from opposite ends of Australia, Perth’s Tangled Thoughts of Leaving and Sydney’s sleepmakeswaves are proud to present you with a shiny new split LP. It’s a record from two bands that are very different yet one that finds an equilibrium between the seemingly disparate tendencies of the two groups. Although both bands find common ground in their latent electronic influences, sleepmakeswaves marry these ideas to their characteristic brand of energetic and uplifting instrumental rock while Tangled Thoughts of Leaving pursue a relentlessly improvisatory, innovative path. The results are more foreboding yet no less spectacular, and are all the more reason to watch for their debut full lengths, slated for 2010.

Tracklisting :

1. Sleepmakeswaves – Keep Your Splendid Silent Sun
2. Sleepmakeswaves – We Sing The Body Electric
3. Sleepmakeswaves – This Is How We Remember (Secret Robot)
4. Tangled Thoughts of Leaving – A Vexing Predicament
5. Tangled Thoughts of Leaving – The World Is A Deaf Machine

This Is My Normal State – Angel Falls ++

This Is My Normal State is a post-rock/ambient band from Bristol, South West England. Formed in October 2008, the band has just finished recording its debut EP: Angel Falls ++ (October 2009).

Taking influences from bands such as Sigur Ros, Explosions in the Sky, This Will Destroy You, Mono, Mogwai and Joy Wants Eternity to name a few, the band create a sound-scape of interlocking melodies, typified by the use of reverb drenched guitar loops, and fragile, ethereal vocals.

Tracklisting :

1. Number 3
2. Angel Falls
3. Phineas Gage

Hoarder Myna – Rememberable Rifts

‘Rememberable Rifts’, the debut EP from progressive Leeds 3 piece Hoarder Myna, is an immensely tight, crisp sounding debut from another great UK band blurring, and expanding, the definition of Math Rock.

Each song flows constantly, moving from one idea to the next, the roving guitar lines intertwine with the melodic bass patterns, underpinned by drums playing stacatto lead flourishes and driving rhythm simultaneously, before all comes together in harmonic unity. It may take many listens to fully understand the genius behind each movement, but good music should lend itself to repeat listens.

Tracklisting :

1. Ham Wallet
2. Dressed My Arsehole To Look Like An Arsehole
3. Hoarder Me A New Direction Darling
4. Basil The Great Mouse Detective / Search for Mufassa
5. Drama Weary Johns
6. More He She’s Please

Inertia Blooms – Cours, Camarade, Le Vieux Monde Est Derriere Toi

Released in 2008 to much critical acclaim, ‘Cours, Camarade…..’ was self recorded in bedrooms and rehearsal spaces between tours. Here are some of the lovely things people have said about it.

‘There are oh so many varied influences within this brilliant little EP, Tool (10,000 Days), Pink Floyd (Dark Side…) and even Deftones (self-titled). For those of you who love not so obvious prog or just something to zone out to I really can’t recommend this enough. 9/10’ – Rockpulse

‘Their mathrock blueprint is fully developed; echoes of Tool, Mogwai and Tortoise run throughout, but there’s a melancholic grandeur about this which is entirely of their own construction. 7/10’ – Teletext/Planet Sound

‘A kind of magic far too rare. You really ought to pick this EP up and, hopefully, experience that magic moment for yourself. This is good stuff, and deserves to be heard. 8/10’ – dieshellsuitdie.co.uk

1. Mega Tsunami

American Green – Roof To Roof

“Roof To Roof EP” is my second EP.

So, This lyric haven’t such as ” I, my, you, your he, she they….”
And maybe, It is like a itemized form, I think.
3. Lumberjack In The Morning
I imaged the situation that the lumberjack works near his log cabin in
the morning.
4. At The Flowerbed Of My Garden
This tune is like a “Pi Pi Pi” “Pipo Pipo” computer sounds.
And, This tune was inspired by the day when I have planted forget-me-not in my flower bed with my grandma.
5. Talk With The Moon
This tune is very calm.
I image the full moon.
6. Street Trees
This tune may be Indietronica sound.

Fugue – Ancient Glass

Fugue presents an arduous journey through a quagmire of genre confusion and deceivingly orchestrated pieces of music. There’s something for everyone on this splendid 17 and a half minute adventure through a veritable sonic paradise.

2. The Sleep of Reason Produces Monsters

The Silent Ballet Compilation – Volume 13

Summer 2009

Volume 13 marks the beginning of the fourth year of The Silent Ballet’s compilation series. Three years ago the first volume was sent out to the world via the Internet, and today we’re still dedicated to bringing our readers exciting, innovative compilations filled with the best and brightest artists from around the globe.

We’ve come a long way since Poetry Without Words, but hopefully the series has shown that the website is unrestrained by genre and is willing to travel to any corner of the world to unearth up-and-coming musicians. Volume 13 feels particularly international, featuring artists from four continents and nine countries, yet also demonstrates that there is something that connects all of us nonetheless.

We’re committed to our goal of providing quality music in a respectable format without charge. As one of life’s greatest pleasures, music should be freely available to all and resistent to commodification. A big thanks goes out to all the artists and labels who made this project possible. Helsingfors – Schematics

Maths is the study of quantity, structure, space, change, and related topics of pattern and form.

Rock is a naturally occurring solid aggregate of minerals and/or mineraloids.

‘Schematics’ is the debut EP from five piece Helsingfors, including all four ex-From The Sky members, and is an instrumental post-math-rock hybrid, a logical progression from their previous work. Upping the complexity and melodic layering mixed with upbeat, jarring indie-rock, ‘Schematics’ was recorded primarily as a live band and bursts with the live energy this brings.

A physical CD release is also available from here and is being promoted and distributed by the new indie record label from The 405 website, 405 Records.

Tracklisting :

1. Angle of Depression
2. Truncation Error
3. Russian Inversion Notation
4. The Panda Conundrum

Part Rocket – Sparks and Beams

The record was written towards the end of 2008, and recorded over the winter of 2009. It’s something of a summer pop record. Or about as close as we’ll ever get to writing a summer pop record anyway. We hope you like it.

‘Sparks and Beams’ is a beautifully crafted and studied record, full of interweaving guitar and bass lines and intelligent flowing drums, creating a gloriously chiming and melodic post/math-rock EP.

Tracklisting :

1. Kingdom
2. Hey, Computer!
3. No Slack Battalion
4. Plagiarhythm

The Silent Ballet Compilation – Volume 12

Fall 2008 – Spring 2009

We’ve experienced a bit of a lag time between compilations 9 and 12, as our tri-monthly series has stalled out over the past half of a year. To remedy this situation, volumes 10 through 12 will be released in close proximity to one another. That’s right, three great compilations for the price of, well, nothing!

No sacrifice in quality has been made to make this possible. We continue to pull from the best and brightest artists we know to offer something fresh and provocative. Listeners will notice a contrast of styles between the three volumes; as always, we attempt to introduce something new in every volume. We believe readers of The Silent Ballet will find plenty to celebrate over the four hours of music.

A big thanks goes out to all the artists and labels who made this project possible. Relevant links can be found below where your support for their music can be demonstrated.

Tangled Thoughts of Leaving – Tiny Fragments

Tangled Thoughts of Leaving’s music is progressive by nature. The inclusion of sparse influences, guided by concept and fused together, is the conception of their own sound, as each musicians respective inspirations force the collective into unchartered territory.

After several years of existence and growth, mid 2007 saw Tangled Thoughts of Leaving construct themselves a purpose built, make shift creative space.

A medium sized room, dedicated to forward thinking; the birth of new sound. In that very room, what was previously theory, became reality, and so began the Process of four people leaving mediocrity behind them.

In the months of January, February and March of 2008, TToL used their creative space to record a concept, aptly titled ‘Tiny Fragments’. This EP was to represent their current thought process. They gave themselves a series of themes, ideas from a previously recorded improvisation and a set amount of time. What followed was roughly 3 months of sporadic sessions, in which the 18 minute, 3 part title track was written and recorded.

With the creation of Tiny Fragments the band have demonstrated that they would rather risk potential failure than never pursue the invention of interesting art. Tiny Fragments was an experiment and is the final step before they put a short lived emphasis on live performance, then return to the studio to record their debut album.

If you would like a CD version of ‘Tiny Fragments’, you can order one from here.

Tracklisting :
1. Tiny Fragments Part One
2. Tiny Fragments Part Two
3. Tiny Fragments Part Three

From The Sky – Like Crystal in a World of Glass

From The Sky’s second release, mini-album ‘Like Crystal in a World of Glass’, was originally released in 2006 by Sound Devastation records and was well received for the young band. We now re-release ‘Like Crystal…’ on Lost Children in memory of the now defunct band as an accompaniment for their third release, EP ‘A Warm Place With No Memory’, which is also on Lost Children. For those wishing to purchase a CD version of ‘Like Crystal…’, there are still copies available from Sound Devastation here.

A more upbeat and energetic instrumental rock release than many post-rock releases in 2006, it laid the groundwork for From The Sky’s manic and often chaotic shows which commonly ended with the live favourite ‘Someone To Remember’ and very little of the stage left.

This version of ‘Like Crystal…’ also contains the previously unreleased version of ‘Needle Happy Paediatricians’ as a bonus track.

Tracklisting :

1. Electric Snow
2. When The Sun Sets The Clouds On Fire
3. Position Of The Stars
4. There Are Ghosts In The Glass
5. Someone To Remember
6. Needle Happy Paediatricians
